BNH GOOD DOCTORS

He has recorded a number of the nation’s first achievements in Korea. In 1994, he succeeded in the Dermal Fat Graft (DFG) Penile Enlargement Procedure first in Korea, and presented to The Korean Urological Association. In 1995, he also succeeded in performing the Premature Ejaculation Surgery by Blocking Penile Dorsal Nerve after he had found that the Premature Ejaculation could result from a sensitive glans penis although in many cases the cause is a psychogenic reaction. However, there would be other reasons that helped his clinic become representative among many urology clinics in Korea other than his popularity. Let’s listen to his story.

I’ve heard you performed the Penile Enlargement Surgery first in Korea. Did you have any specific reasons?
I started the clinic in the last 80’s when there were lots of people who wanted to make their penis larger. Some of them suffered side-effects from injecting paraffin into their penis. They came to my clinic, so I removed paraffin from the penis and made it recover the original state. However, they again asked me to enlarge their penis, so I developed a surgery for penis enlargement through implanting dermal fat graft taken from the groin area below the swimsuit line or from the lower abdomen, or through implanting artificial one.
This surgery is so safe that there is no problem after the surgery only except for inflammation, and patients could have a sex in a  month after the surgery

What kind of surgeries do you most frequently operate nowadays?
Nowadays, I often operate vasectomy reversal procedures and erectile dysfunction surgeries. In Korea, as the number of people who want to remarry is increasing, the number of vasectomy reversal procedures is also increasing, because they want to have a baby again. And therefore success rate here is so important. So, by using a high-powered microscope and stitching fibers smaller in diameter than an eyelash when joining the ends of the vas, I have enhanced the success rate. For erectile dysfunction, patients’ attitude toward it has changed as the quality of their lives is improved and sexual concept is brought out to the open. In addition, it is currently a very common disease, which about 15 percent of 50-year-old men suffers a complete erectile dysfunction. It has a close relationship with the period and degree of smoking, and adult disease  such as diabetes, hyperlipidemia, and arteriosclerosis, which is increased as getting older. We always do our best to recommend the best medical or surgical treatment options for patients with erectile dysfunction, including medications
(including oral and injectable), penile implants and so on.

Would you explain ways of this surgery?
Penile Enhancement or Enlargement surgery ensures the most permanent result by making artificial sexual organ in patients’ penis. Penile prosthesis for the treatment can be chosen based on the patients’ condition or willingness, but 3-piece inflatable penile prosthesis acts and feels most similar to a natural erection compared with other models. The 3-piece inflatable penile prosthesis is made of two soft tubes connected to a small reservoir with a sterile liquid placed under the muscles of the abdomen. A pump in the scrotum is used to move the liquid from the reservoir to the tubes. The more the fluid pumped into the inner tubes, the firmer and larger the erection. When the erection is no longer desired, the fluid returns back to the reservoir, leaving the penis soft

Have you managed something specifically to prevent your clinic from potential accident during the operation?
First of all, I have never recommended patients unreasonable surgeries even if they want to undergo them, because they came to my clinic with trust. If not, I recommend another way to the patients and persuade them. This applies the same to foreign patients. And my clinic only uses disposable gloves, gowns, and other consumables to reduce risks of infection. So if the patient who reserves a surgery cancels it, I discard all of things because safety is the first priority.
I know patients come to my clinic with trust, so I always serve them with my best.

Does the psychogenic reaction account for 90% sexual problems of young men?
Erectile dysfunction results from a combination of physical and psychological issues. Also, brain plays a key role in triggering a series of physical events that cause an erection, starting with feelings of sexual excitement. Diverse factors could interfere with sexual feelings and causes or worsen erectile dysfunction. These include: anxiety, depression, and trauma. Physical problems such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and hyperlipidemia also cause it, so I operate a penile implant surgery for those patients who suffer from erectile dysfunction. The youngest patient I treated for erectile dysfunction had a juvenile diabetes which damages the peripheral nervous system and peripheral blood vessel.

Is there any memorable patient for you?
The patient in his early 70s visited our clinic a few years ago. He remarry a woman in late 50s 10years after his wife had passed away.
He had severe concerns about a sexual problem, even though he had already used Viagra. After getting re-married, he had a sex several times a month with his new wife who was much younger than him, but he wasn’t quite confident to make his new wife satisfied. So, he visited and underwent penis implant procedure called ‘gochoo implant’ which another patient with the same surgery named for me. Good points of this surgery are that partner could not figure out whether or not he undergone this. Actually, he was recommended my clinic by his sons.
He was so happy with this fact, he said that ‘I had no idea whether or not my sons agree on my remarriage’, ‘but they even recommended here as well as agreement.’ After surgery, he could make his wife happy during a sex, but he didn’t want to say anything to her about this surgery.
